Schwannoma psoas
27/3/2019
Schwannoma psoas are especially rare tumors. To be exact, there are only 17 cases reported in studies around the world.
Their removal is usually done with anterior or lateral access (with an incision of 25-30 cm). In the case of our patient, the posterior percutaneous micro-endoscopic approach was chosen because it was the only access that did not jeopardize the integrity of a nerve group (lumbar plexus). Therefore, the incision size was 5 centimeters.
With the complete removal of the Schwannoma the patient was mobilized 12 hours after the surgery and left the hospital immediately after mobilization. He had immediate resolution of his symptoms without neurological deficit.
Magnetic resonance imaging after three months showed complete removal of the schwannoma.
